Lord Howe Island

Fourteen members enjoyed our 50-year celebration offshore to Lord Howe Island in November.  While the weather upset our plans with delayed flights and consequent extensions to accommodation stays the Island did not disappoint us. Despite it all, the consensus view would be that it was a trip of good cheer and wonderful experiences. Excellent walking, although difficult at times, good food and being at one with nature, particularly the immigrating nesting birds, snorkelling or simply putting your toes in the water for fish to nibble made the experience exceptional. Members were interested in the informative educational talks about the island and its biodiversity etc  given by Dr Ian Hutton, the young environmental scientist who visited the island for two years stayed for 45 years. He is the Island Museum’s Curator.
