AGM and Kinglake walk

On Saturday 21 February 2026 members gathered at the Kinglake Neighbourhood House for a well run AGM and morning tea. The committee was re-elected and new members would be welcome. We have tied funding for first aid courses and all members, particularly walk leaders are encouraged to apply for funding for the nominated courses.

On our way to the Kinglake National Park picnic ground we drove to visit the St Andrews Bushfire Memorial in Kinglake. This is a beautifully designed and poignant memorial to the 14 people from St Andrews who died on Black Saturday February 7, 2009, with acknowledgement of the 120 who died in the Kinglake area, amongst 173 Victorians who died across the state. There are views to the city in the distance, as well as to the hills and valleys nearby where fire swept through so viciously. The wording of the information and dedication is heart rending.

Following a picnic lunch we walked to Masons Falls, one of the shorter MUAB walks, but a lift to the soul to be in the healthy Aussie bush regenerated after the fire. There was not much water coming over but a significant variety of native vegetation and birds surrounds the falls and creek. A longer walk in the Kinglake area is in the minds of many.

A big thank you to Meg who went to great trouble to organise the AGM and walks in this beautiful countryside.

Jill
