Our November walk was a late replacement when our intended walk leader was travelling overseas. Fortunately the walks coordinator had a suitable walk up his sleeve. So we met at Baldry’s Crossing car park down on the Peninsula on an overcast day, promising rain after midday – our struggles with La Nina continuing.

Fourteen walkers came. Four decided on the medium walk offered in the walk notes, which was to be a self-guided return on the maps provided.
We all set out together through luscious fern gullies, up and down the creek crossings, over and under fallen trees. Turning south we were soon bailed up by a locked gate, then down through the open country now knee high in fresh grass. Spring flowers and orchids were on display. The birds were singing, and even the butterflies were out and about.

Medium walkers turned back at a morning tea stop, and the rest went on south to Lightwood campground for lunch. On return we went off-trail to find a boundary fence walk. It was then the rain came, but only in the nature of a summer shower. One might have thought it actually improved the walk experience.

Back at the cars, we toasted the arrival of the President’s and Walk Coordinator’s latest grandchild with champagne, before dispersing, some to the local coffee shop and others directly home.
