Here we go again! Groundhog Day! As of Thursday July 9, the whole of Greater Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire are in our second lockdown, at present set for 6 weeks. Our members come from many areas of the state, but most of us are from the lockdown region. So we have cancelled all MUAB walks and social activities until further notice. It’s disappointing, but necessary.
It was great that we managed our walk together at Braeside in the interim. Getting together reminded us of how much we enjoy not only the great outdoors and the walking, but also the friendship and camaraderie of the group. It also gave us the chance to test out our Covid-safe behaviors while on a club walk.
Committee activities
The Committee has kept busy while in lockdown. We have updated our key processes, forms and documents. The walks program was amended to take account of the first lockdown – it will be revisited again now. We applied for grants from Bushwalking Victoria and the State Government, both of which have been successful – very welcome support!
A labour of love has been the design and development of a new website, which should be more flexible and easier to manage. Without a technical/IT background, it has been an exercise in perseverance, but hopefully the website is accessible and user-friendly. We would welcome any feedback – please feel free to use the Comments section, or email president@muab.org.au
We are very keen to welcome new members, to maintain the vibrancy of the club and keep us forward-looking. We would particularly welcome prospective members who may wish to become Walk Leaders in the future.
We look forward to getting together again when the lockdown eases. In the meantime, keep active, keep safe, and we will see you on the trail.
